Job Description

We’re looking for a passionate individual who can help us maximise income for our charity and promote our important work amongst the public. Interested? Then read on.

The Company
Cancer Research Wales (CRW) is an independent Welsh charity, funding research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in Wales for the benefit of the people of Wales.

Established in 1966, we fund world-class research in hospitals and universities across Wales and have invested over £20m in cancer research to date. This research is important in transforming how people with cancer are diagnosed and treated – helping more people survive cancer than ever before.

With no government funding, we rely solely on the generous support of the public with income being raised through a range of fundraising sources including legacies, individual donations, events, retail sales and volunteer fundraising.

We are currently seeking a Shop Manager to join us across a number of our retail outlets in Cardiff, Swansea and surrounding areas. This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week (five out of seven days).

If you have a background in retail management, are customer-orientated and have an excellent leadership style that inspires those around you, we have just the opportunity for you.

When you join us, you’ll discover a dedicated team of staff and volunteers all committed to helping raise funds to support pioneering cancer research in Wales. No two days will be the same and you’ll be involved in a broad range of activities, meaning you’ll have the chance to build on your existing skills and experience whilst supporting our volunteers to do the same.

So, if you are looking for a role where you can support our charity’s important work whilst building a positive and welcoming store environment for volunteers and customers alike, we want to hear from you.

The Role
As a Shop Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the shop, maximising income for our charity and providing great customer service.

You will recruit, train and manage a team of volunteers, creating timely rotas and providing excellent support and guidance. Ensuring high levels of customer care are delivered at all times, you will create a friendly and welcoming store environment and build a positive reputation for customer service.

Additionally, you will maximise sales and profits, including promoting Gift Aid on donated products and maintaining a high standard of presentation within the store. You will also liaise with the Marketing Team to create timely content for social media.

About You
To join us as a Shop Manager, you will need:
– Experience of working in retail management
– Excellent customer service skills
– Experience of managing staff
– Experience in cash and banking procedures
– Knowledge of retail, marketing and/or merchandising and display
– The ability to work within budgets and meet realistic targets
– An excellent level of general education
– The willingness to travel
– A full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle

Knowledge of the charity sector would be beneficial to your application, as would experience of managing volunteers. Good IT skills including Microsoft Office packages would be advantageous. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
