With the popularity of second-hand rising, the Charity Retail Association has launched its annual campaign to promote the benefits of buying pre-loved gifts from charity shops this Christmas.
The #GoodCauseSantaClaus campaign seeks to encourage more people to buy pre-loved gifts and where possible to include a note with their gift letting the recipient know that their present has helped the planet, raised money for good causes, and brought communities together. Each year, charity shops raise around £330 million for good causes and divert around 340,000 tonnes of textiles from being disposed of as waste. Charity shops act as local community reuse hubs by enabling reuse of items within their local communities, with the support of volunteers from the local area – in total numbering around 230,000 across the UK.
