Blog: Successful Scottish meeting

Last week, our Scottish Officer Rachel Blair and I visited Roseanna Cunningham MSP in her odd-shaped office in the Scottish Parliament.

As Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform in the Scottish Government she has a key role in ensuring that the Scottish economy is as green as possible, that waste and landfill is kept to a minimum, and in reducing the environmental impact of businesses and organisations across Scotland.

As such, we were pleased to meet her to tell her first hand of the positive environmental credentials of Scottish charity retail, and to discuss with her the thorny issue of the increasing waste charges being levied by Scottish local authorities.

I’m pleased to say she responded very positively to our presentation, and asked for more information on the issue of waste charges, which is very encouraging.

We also took the opportunity to discuss the idea of Good Cause Santa Claus, and she was keen to support the initiative although it seems not many civil servants do Secret Santas! We are awaiting a supportive statement from her which is now being prepared.

All in all a great meeting which could yield some positive progress.

Thanks to Rachel for setting it up.
