Charity Retail Association highlight volunteering to DCMS Full-Time Social Action review

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in Westminster has recently commissioned Steve Holliday, former chief executive of National Grid plc, to chair an independent Full-Time Social Action review.  His task is to consider what the voluntary sector, industry and government can do to support full-time volunteering (defined as over 16 hours per week volunteering).

220,000 people volunteer in charity shops across the UK, making us the single biggest provider of volunteer opportunities in the country.  We therefore believe that our sector has unique insights to contribute to this Call for Evidence.

We have therefore sent a submission to Mr Holliday, highlighting the clear benefits of volunteering to people both young and old. We also asked him to consider ideas such as greater signposting to charity store volunteer opportunities and accreditation of our members’ young volunteer programmes.

You can read more about the review and how to submit your ideas here.  You can find our submission on our Consultation Response pages here.
