Clothing Collective aims to help tackle clothing poverty and boost charity shops

Clothing Collective is a charity that’s been gaining ground over the past few years in its mission to make a positive impact to our community through the power of clothing.

The charity was founded in 2018, in response to wanting to do more for people in need, who struggle to access clothing to keep them warm and dry.

The key groups they support include the homeless, migrants, those released from prison or families in crisis.

According to a recent report by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (UK Poverty 2025) more than one in five of the UK population (22%) is in poverty, including 4.3 million children.

Whilst food banks have appeared across the UK to provide support, there are fewer options for finding every-day, affordable, and essential clothing – for many, even a charity shop purchase is not possible.

The mechanism they introduced works by them using funds raised to purchase quantities of The Charity Shop Gift Card and distribute these to a network of charities and other support organisations, who in turn give them to those they know who need them the most.

One recent example of this – as featured in a previous news item – is for the charity Migrant Help UK, who received £10,000 worth of The Charity Shop Gift Card at the end of last year.

This partnership with The Charity Shop Gift Card means that any charity shop that accepts the cards could benefit from this, if people in their areas are given cards to spend.

Antony Wroe, CEO of Clothing Collective said: “Funds raised go to our support agencies can then be spent in charity shops that accept The Charity Shop Gift Card.

“This makes it even more impactful, as not only are the card recipients benefitting, but also so are the charity shops that the cards are being redeemed in.”

Fast forward to 2025 and Clothing Collective has helped over 5,200 people by distributing over 7,000 gift cards.
