Job Description

The Children’s Society has more than 100 shops across the country, with our staff and over 2000 volunteers helping to raise more than £8million last year, which goes towards transforming the lives of vulnerable children and young people. This key role works in our high profile Compton Acres Shop, recently re-opened and refitted after a fire, and will involve handling the day to day running of the shop, as well as recruiting and managing a new team of volunteers.
We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Manager to assist the Shop Manager in maximising sales and to run the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager. A key part of this will be your ability to assist the Shop Manager in the achievement of sales and stock processing targets.
Your key tasks will include management of stock, and assisting in the recruitment, training and retention of shop volunteers. You will be helping in the planning and implementation of internal and external sales promotion as requested by the Shop Manager.

In order to be successful in this role, you must have experience in customer services. You must be happy to work in a demanding environment with great organisational skills to be able to handle high levels of donations and process stock quickly and safely.
You must have a track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise a team of volunteers. You must also have GCSE English and maths or equivalent and a basic understanding of the retail environment and of working with volunteers. Your experience should also include cash handling if possible.
The Children’s Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support, and we campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children’s lives happier and safer.
Every day we’re changing the lives of children in this country for the better – and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.
