Job description

Are you a friendly retail professional with experience of supervising staff? Want to do some real good with your retail career and support the success of a local charity? If so, this Assistant Shop Manager position is the role for you.

Who will I be working for?

We are Dove House Hospice, a dedicated service supporting patients with life limiting illnesses. Providing a range of therapies, services and support, we aim to make the hardest part of life manageable within a sustainable, comfortable and caring environment.

We have over 30 different retail outlets across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire and they provide vital income which enables us to keep our doors open and continue helping those who need it most.

Within our retail department we use all the latest technology, fully barcoded stock, top of the range epos systems, excellent detailed back office sales reports, sales targets, excellent training packages and much more.

We’re now looking for a full-time Assistant Shop Manager to join us on a fixed-term contract until approximately February 2021.

This is a brilliant opportunity to help a forward-thinking charity provide the best quality of life possible to individuals with a life-limiting illness.

Working in the charitable sector means you’ll be able to make a real difference while building on your existing expertise.

We aim to provide you with the very best experience of working in a fast-moving retail environment and the opportunity to develop your retailing skills. What you won’t get is planograms, pre-priced stock, detailed window layouts, restrictions on creative flair or corporate standardisation.

So, if you have a passion for retail, can and will go the extra mile, can take ownership of your shop and are proud to show just what you can achieve, we want to hear from you.

What will I be doing?

As an Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll help with the day-to-day running of our on-site shop in Hull, on the grounds of Dove House Hospice on Chamberlain Road.

Supporting the Shop Manager, you will recruit, train and supervise volunteers, providing them with the guidance they need to deliver a high-quality service to customers.

Additionally, you will:

– Help to achieve sales targets
– Sort, categorise and price donated goods
– Act as the main key holder for the shop in the Shop Manager’s absence
– Complete some manual handling tasks

What do I need?

To join us as our Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll need:

– Retail experience
– Experience of supervising staff
– Previous experience with EPOS systems
– Basic IT skills, including email and Microsoft Word
– A flexible approach to working hours
– Great communication skills

Previous experience of working in a charity shop would be beneficial, as would experience of working with volunteers. Fashion retail experience would also be an advantage.

We’d like to hear from you if you’ve worked as a Retail Supervisor, Retail Team Leader, Shop Supervisor, Store Supervisor, Store Team Leader, Assistant Retail Manager, Deputy Retail Manager or Deputy Shop Manager.
