Job Summary

To assist the Manager, and to deputise in their absence, in operating an effective sorting facility within agreed cost and performance parameters and to present to customers and supporters a positive image of the Hospices through excellent retail practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective management of staff and any assigned areas of operation as required by the Warehouse Manager.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager organise and manage an appropriate staff rota to ensure that the warehouse and vehicles are able to function effectively during agreed operating hours.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager liaise with the Retail Manager on matters relating to budget and expenditure that might fall outside of normal operating parameters, in particular relating to additional staffing that might be required.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager in the recruitment, training, development and retention of staff and volunteers.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager organise and manage a schedule of deliveries and collections from shops according to their needs and integrate customer collections where relevant.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager, manage receipt into the warehouse, either from shops or direct from customers, of appropriate donations.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager, ensure that correct gift aid procedures are followed, both during receipt and sorting of donations, to ensure maximum income is met.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager ensure continued and effective sorting of donated goods (clothing, accessories, textiles, bric-a-brac, books and electrical).
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager ensure stock is picked and distributed to shops in line with agreed standard orders and ad hoc requests from the Area Shops’ Manager
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager ensure correct procedures for the selection and preparation of clothing for sale in Woking, including hanging and steaming are maintained.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager ensure correct recycling procedures and disposal of stock are maintained.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager make the Retail Manager aware of any issues regarding levels of stored stock and if donations reach a high level.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager ensure that all stock is stored safely and meets all H & S regulations.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager assist the Retail Manager in the distribution of Christmas cards
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manage ensure that the correct banking procedures are followed.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager ensure that the warehouse complies with all current Health and Safety, Fire and Trading Standards legislation.
  • In the absence of the Warehouse Manager Ensure vehicles are correctly maintained and meet all relevant legislation.
  • To undertake other specific tasks as requested by your line manager from time to time.
  • To escalate to your line manager any issues and problems experienced, agree and implement resolutions.
