Job Description

The roles will be a mixture of home-based work/shop visits with regular travel across the region and we would like you to live within the territory.  Currently the 2 areas cover the following locations:

  • Portchester, Eastleigh, Hythe, Crawley, Littlehampton, Maidstone, Sittingbourne
  • Woodstock, Newbury, High Wycombe, Wantage, Cambridge, Guildford

Job Purpose

As the Cluster Shop Manager, you will oversee a group of our volunteer led charity shops. Harnessing the public`s desire to make a difference in children`s lives, and their yearning for a bargain!

We are looking for a passionate individual who can engage local communities and maintain our high retail standards. But above all, we need a person who can inspire and empower a team, entrusting the volunteers to run the shop effectively and happily, united in a common goal to raise as much money as possible to support children to learn, grow and be protected.

You will take ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the shops are managed in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures for health & safety, financial safeguards, and the safeguarding of children. You must enjoy the excitement of a retail environment but most importantly, love people and have the ability to lead, inspire and empower those around you.

You will work directly with Volunteer teams to deliver the key accountabilities within your role, building stability within the team and bringing practical ideas on how to develop the business in our shops and their income, through analysing, planning and best retail practices and trends.

Note: There are 2 Part Time roles available for 3 days per week.  The roles are fixed term contracts for 8-9 months.  Full time equivalent salary is £27,000 per annum

Main Accountabilities

As the Cluster Shop Manager your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Volunteer Teams to meet organisational, trading and industry standards, governance, and policies. Ensure team members know how to apply relevant financial processes and practices that safeguard compliance.
  • Be accountable for recruiting and building capacity within Volunteer teams to maximise Trading Hours and meeting non- financial KPI’s
  • Be accountable and ensure volunteers are well versed in commercial operations, stock management, processing of gift aid and other critical funding processes that maximise sales and profit, meeting and/or exceeding income targets.
  • Maintaining our standards of housekeeping and health and safety requirements through regularly assessing risk, making sure induction, and training content is up to date and imparted to all volunteers so that all shops and those working within are aware of their responsibilities in upholding these standards.
  • Understanding the key priorities and focuses of the charity

We’re looking for an experienced People Manager with the ability to mould and delegate to equally passionate teams of volunteers. A brilliant communicator, inspirational leader, efficient business manager and unfailingly positive thinker, you must radiate natural warmth and a can-do entrepreneurial approach. And of course, you will have a passion for fashion!

Experience

  • Experience of leading teams and achieving results from developing and supporting others
  • Retail management experience – including stock control, cash handling and visual merchandising etc., meeting and/or exceeding income targets.

Abilities

  • Exceptional people skills, with an ability attract and get the best out of a diverse team of volunteers
  • Able to illustrate an understanding of issues that result from working with volunteers
  • Ability to drive sales and control costs

Aptitude

  • An excellent team leader, achieving results from developing and supporting others
  • Exceptional people skills, with an ability attract and get the best out of a diverse team of volunteers
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure the shop runs effectively and your own work/life balance is achieved
  • Must be flexible and able to work weekends, Bank Holidays and additional hours, in addition to occasional relief cover at shops
