Job Description
This position is to deliver required equipment to the shops and to clear excess rubbish from them. To assist with the collection/delivery of furniture and bulky donated goods. To cover the furniture van or assist the Maintenance personnel. He/she will report directly to the Warehouse Manager. The job-holder is expected to conduct him or herself in a polite and helpful manner, and be sensitive to the possibility that our donors may have suffered a recent bereavement.

Job Purpose
To help raise funds for the Hospice by collecting and delivering donated furniture and household items to sell in the shops to the general public, and by the provision of a general delivery/collection service to all the St Luke’s shops and assist with the collection and disposal of rubbish.

Main Duties
When working from the Shops Office:

  • To collect excess rubbish from all the shops.
  • To collect van collections and deliver to all shops.
  • To ensure that goods collected comply with Trading Standards Regulations.
  • To maintain effective working relationships with managers, colleagues, paid staff, volunteers and community contacts in order to achieve business objectives and create a positive and happy atmosphere.
  • To report any accidents immediately, once they have occurred.
  • To ensure that the vans are kept clean both inside and out and to report faults as soon as they arise.
  • To assist in other duties as they arise.

Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week

General

All staff are expected:

  • To provide a courteous and helpful service to the public.
  • To comply with St Luke’s Hospice Charity Shops procedures and policies.
  • To promote the work of the Hospice to the general public.

When working from the Furniture Shop

  • To collect and deliver furniture and household items, some of which are both heavy and bulky.
  • To help display incoming heavy items and assist the Manager at the end of the day to leave the shop in an attractive and tidy condition.
  • To ensure that storage areas are kept in an orderly and tidy condition when bringing in donated items.

Training

  • Training will be given in all aspects of the position.
  • Attendance at training sessions elsewhere may occasionally be required.

Working Hours and Conditions of Employment

  • Hours as required to carry out duties, but are estimated at thirty-seven and a half hours per week. The working week is five out of seven days.
  • There is half hour lunch break.
  • Holidays are twenty-five days per year plus bank holidays.
  • A Contributory Pension Scheme is available.
  • The position is subject to a three-month probationary period.
  • Full Conditions of Employment will be issued on commencement.
