A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Prospect Hospice for a Head of Retail to lead our outstanding retail team as we continue to deliver our strategic plans to maximise income from existing shops, open new shops and develop new initiatives.

Our retail operations raise vital income to enable us to care for more people in our community. We proudly have a total of 18 shops in Swindon, Marlborough and Pewsey. Our shops generate sales of £2m per year and forms one of our largest income streams. Building on strong performance over the past 3 years, we have exciting plans to expand our retail portfolio, including new formats and business ventures.

We are seeking an experienced, commercially focused retail leader who wants an exciting new challenge and is passionate about enabling the care we provide.

What is the role?

Reporting to the Director of Community Development, your role will be to lead, inspire and provide strategic direction to a retail team of around 50 staff across our shops, distribution centre and our volunteers. A key element will be to develop and implement plans to grow the hospice’s retail income and ensure sales, costs and profit targets are met in line with the income generation strategy.

You will develop the retail strategy in line with the Director of Community Development, implement robust work plans, monitor performance and evaluate and develop new retail income streams as well as overseeing the day to day management of the shops and distribution centre. You will also play a vital role in driving continuous improvement, growth and an enhanced working culture across our retail team.

You will need to have multi-site experience and a desire to develop yourself in an exciting, forward-thinking and empowering environment.

About you:

  • Proven track record in senior retail management in either the commercial or charity sector
  • Excellent leadership and people skills
  • Proven track record delivering significant sales & profit growth
  • Proven track record of opening new shops
  • Highly motivated, innovative and resourceful
  • Experience in property and lease management
  • Knowledge of management accounting and ideally some experience of managing profit and loss accounts.

It would also be great if you have:

  • Charity retail sector experience
  • Experience of working with, or managing volunteers.

A little bit about us

We are an independent hospice supporting a community of 300,000 people in Swindon, Marlborough and North Wiltshire, and the villages of Lechlade and Fairford in Gloucestershire. It is the only dedicated provider of specialist end of life care services within the area. The Hospice’s multi-professionals teams support people in the community, in care homes, at the Great Western Hospital and at the Hospice in Wroughton. Care is also extended to the families and friends of patients.
