Job description:

To develop retail operations with focus on key areas, including maximising online and individual shop profits, ensuring high and consistent standards across all shops and to identify and launch new retail opportunities. To build retail awareness and to increase income through social media and online channels.

Existing shops

  • Motivate managers and ensure their team are maximising the profit potential of each shop unit
  • Work with the Business Manager to agree budgets, pricing structures and general retail strategy for the upcoming year
  • Agree targets, devise robust reporting mechanisms and monitor performance
  • Support the team with training (e.g. merchandising, promotion, pricing, shop windows etc.) and exciting charity retail concepts
  • Organise successful methods of attracting stock, including trawling where appropriate, and ensure stock is distributed to shops in a manner that maximises the best return on stock
  • Assist the shop managers to promote gift aid where appropriate
  • Ensure all shop managers adhere to HR, health and safety and fire procedures as required by the Branch’s policies and UK legislation
  • Provide regular reports on each shop to the Business Manager
  • Encourage the sharing of best practice between shops and encourage co-operation between shop managers
  • Oversee the growth and development of ecommerce operations
  • Maintain consistent processes and procedures at all shops, allowing where necessary, with the approval of the Business Manager, for any identified individual circumstances at particular shops
  • Work with the Business Manager to develop the pet supplies shop at the animal centre to aid in the animal’s transition home and also maximise income generation
  • Develop and grow the new goods offering within the retail and events network

New retail opportunities

  • Identify suitable new retail opportunities within the changing high street and online market
  • Work with the Business Manager and legal representative, to negotiate new sites, leases, fittings, signage, staffing and launch publicity to agreed budgets

Social Media and digital marketing

  • Oversee and be responsible for shop Facebook, Instagram and website posts.
  • Find innovative ways in which to use social media as an income generation tool

Animal Centre Shop

  • Work with the Business Manager to determine appropriate goods to sell in the Centre shop
  • Ensure the retail team deal with public enquiries efficiently and appropriately
  • Ensure good customer service is given across all shops
  • Work with the customer care team to oversee restocking of the reception shop
  • Provide regular training to the customer care and retail team in the appropriate areas.

 General

  • Where and when necessary, deliver hands-on shop manager duties
  • Attend any training courses as required
  • Any other appropriate duties that are within the capabilities of the post-holder, or for which training has been given
  • To provide general administrative support to branch staff
  • A full clean driving licence and access to a car is a requirement of the post
  • Ensure monies received are dealt with in accordance with branch policies
