Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s charity shops are like no other and we need a passionate, creative individual who can represent our outgoing brand.

Based at our charity shop in Belper you will be responsible for all aspects of the day to day running of the store.

If you have retail management experience, excellent communication skills and a flexible approach we would love to hear from you. The role will be challenging and rewarding, and every day will be different. You will be our first point of contact with a new audience and your approach will set the tone of the Trust for many people. Building customer loyalty, promoting our aims, generating membership interest and upholding our values is of utmost importance.

This is a permanent contract with part time hours of 30 per week, hours are worked flexibly on a rota basis, Monday-Sunday and the post holder will need to be available for work during weekends and bank holidays.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Retail Shop Management – to be responsible for all activities related to the day to day running of a charity retail shop

  • Ensuring excellent customer service, building loyalty from customers, donors and volunteers
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, and support of retail assistants and volunteers and ensuring the store is appropriately staffed during core trading hours
  • Responsible for ensuring income targets are met by driving increased sales of donated and new goods, participating in fundraising campaigns and supporting the membership team
  • Responsible for the selection, storage, pricing and merchandising of all donated goods and the stock control of new goods
  • Ensure that stock is displayed to its full potential both on the shop floor and in the shop windows upholding the Trust brand and shop standards
  • Actively encourage the public to donate saleable goods and where applicable sign up as Gift Aid donors, building loyalty and encouraging repeat donations and adhering to data protection
  • Responsible for recording sales and other key performance information daily, analysing and forecasting monthly sales figures, managing controllable expenditure and applying commercial judgement to increasing sales
  • Communicate and brief store teams on daily/weekly forecast regularly updating the team on business performance, key messaging and wider Trust activities
  • Responsible for the daily recording, safeguarding and banking of cash receipts
  • Responsible for Health and Safety, building security, and cleanliness, including ensuring the regular disposal of waste and the reporting of any building and equipment faults.
  • Use specialist skills and experience alongside other colleagues to ensure the integrated delivery of the Trust’s strategic objectives and priorities.
  • Work closely with the Retail Development Manager to plan and monitor budgets, meeting the requirement of funding bodies, the Trust and partners.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Trust, promoting the Trust at all times.
  • Use every opportunity, commensurate with other duties, to promote membership of the Trust.
  • Ensure a high level of professionalism in all dealings with the public.
  • Ensure continuous development of skills and knowledge.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures as well as any H&S, legal or contractual obligations.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post, as requested by line manager, this may on occasion include covering at other Trust charity retail outlets.
