This course is aimed at our members who want training on managing volunteers and reducing volunteer turnover in their shop.

Continual volunteer recruitment can be a costly and time-consuming experience. Developing a shop where volunteers feel motivated and loyal can cut down on turnover and carries multiple rewards both short and long-term. Effective volunteer management plays a key role in achieving this.

Making a return after much demand, the course will be delivered by Matthew Plumridge (MJ Plumridge Training & Facilitation) who has been a highly praised trainer for our very well-received set of Recruiting Shop Volunteers training courses.

What will I be trained on?

Creating a volunteering culture: Consider a person-centred approach to volunteers, demonstrate the concept of the ‘Volunteering Culture’ and examine the status of volunteers in the shop (including their pros and cons).

Managing volunteers: Establish the key principles of volunteer management, look into ways to increase motivation and loyalty and learn the best ways to provide support and supervision.

How to retain volunteers: Explore good practice in volunteer management and retention and consider why some people volunteer while others don’t.

Managing problems: Discuss ways to manage the common issues with volunteers (including personal and professional boundaries), deal with suspension of volunteers.

The course comprises of two sessions running across two consecutive days.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at anyone whose responsibility includes the management of volunteers, whether this is Area Manager, Retail Operations Manager, Shop Manager or any other volunteer-related position.

Cost

The typical rate is £125 plus VAT, however, as this course is now online we are able to save on venue and catering costs which we have passed onto delegate places as a 15% discount.

As a result, you can now attend a one day training course for £106.25 plus VAT, with an expert trainer and a small group of delegates.

Bursaries

We are also able to offer a small number of bursary places on the course reducing the ticket price to £53.13 plus VAT. These places are aimed at charities who have five or fewer charity shops.

We also have non-member rates for attending the training, although priority is given to members. Please contact us for further details.
