Statement: Charity Commission findings on Oxfam

We acknowledge the Charity Commission’s findings published today (11 June 2019) on Oxfam and safeguarding in their charity shops. Everyone involved in our sector has a right to expect the environment in which the charity they work or volunteer for is a safe one.

This has been a difficult period for all involved. Charities, large and small, have recognised that they must have rigorous safeguarding standards in place. This involves not just a change in procedures but culture.

We are committed to helping our members achieve this; our forthcoming Licence To Operate scheme will give charities a streamlined framework to protect charity shop staff and volunteers.
