Sustainable Fashion Week is running 16-25 September 2022
You can build an event around anything that actively promotes sustainability in fashion in a way that is accessible and inclusive. What we want is for you to inspire the people in your community or area, helping them to understand why we need to change our relationship with fashion and sharing tips or skills for how to do this without needing a big budget. Last year we had 62 community events ranging from mending workshops to art trails. Here are some ideas from the Sustainable Fashion Week team:
Could you host a workshop where you teach people skills?
- A Make & Mend group
- Upcycling or repurposing existing fabric, such as saris
- Visible mending techniques
- Pattern cutting
- Learning how to use a sewing machine
- Clothing alterations
Could you organise an event that shows how many different ways there are of finding clothes sustainably?
- Clothing swaps
- Pop up shops for sustainable garments
- Fashion shows
- Preloved clothing sales
- New sustainable designer exhibitions
- Personal styling tips for a sustainable wardrobe
- Group charity shopping
Could you inspire your community to make positive changes by sharing knowledge about the industry?
- Panel discussions with speakers
- Meet the Maker events
- Film screenings
- Invite an industry member to speak in your community
- Book clubs
Most Importantly….Have Fun!
The creative potential here is endless, the points above are just starting ideas. You can go as big or as little asyou would like. We all engage with fashion in different ways, and SFW is all about celebrating this. Find something you enjoy doing and see how you can relate it back to sustainability and inclusivity in fashion. If you want to host an event but you’re stuck for ideas, get in touch with the Sustainable Fashion Week team. They’d love to chat with you!
