Thrift+ seals the deal on Dragon’s Den

Many congratulations to Joe Metcalfe on securing a deal on Dragon’s Den, for his company ‘Thrift+’!

Thrift+ offers to “make it easy to donate your best second-hand clothes to your favourite charity”. The donor orders a ThriftBag, fills it with clothes, and returns it for free. The company then sorts, photographs & uploads, before selling online. Sales are split equally between Thrift+, the donor, and their chosen charity. Funds can be directed to any UK registered charity.

In response to the Coronavirus crisis, Thrift+ has launched a home collection service, available nationwide, to help supporters to continue to donate while charity shops are closed.

The company was founded by Joe Metcalfe, CEO, and Poppy Beer, CTO, who are supported by 3 head office staff, and 6 warehouse staff uploading up to 10,000 items each month.

In the past 12 months, the business has raised over £150,000 for charity and diverted tens of thousands of items from landfill.

The episode aired on BBC at the weekend, but you can watch Joe’s clip on Dragon’s Den here:
