Willow’s latest charity shop opens in Hitchin with celebrity ribbon-cutting

Hitchin welcomed the opening of Willow’s latest charity shop on 2 November 2024. Located at 7 Arcade Walk, the new location supports Willow’s mission to provide life-changing experiences for seriously ill young adults.

The grand opening was marked by a special ribbon-cutting ceremony with Frankie Seaman, professional ice skater and former Dancing on Ice star, who is also Willow’s Honorary President. Seaman, a long-time supporter of Willow, expressed her admiration for the charity’s work and encouraged the local community to get involved.

“It’s an honour to be part of this special day,” said Frankie.”Willow’s shops play a crucial role in raising funds to create memorable experiences for seriously ill young adults. I hope the people of Hitchin will support this new shop and help us continue to make a real difference.”

The new shop has already gained the support of locals, including Hitchin’s Town Centre Manager, Tom Hardy, who praised the charity’s positive impact on both the community and the lives of young adults across the UK.
“I’m delighted to welcome Willow to Hitchin,” Tom said. “This shop not only provides sustainable shopping options but also supports an incredibly important cause. I encourage everyone in our community to support the great work Willow does.”

Families attending the event enjoyed a children’s lucky dip and a competition with the chance to win luxury hampers. Shoppers were invited to explore the wide range of pre-loved fashion, accessories, and home goods available. Every purchase supported Willow’s life-changing work in giving seriously ill young adults the chance to make lasting memories with their loved ones.

The Hitchin shop is now open seven days a week and locals are encouraged to get involved by donating pre-loved items or volunteering. Donations of clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac can be made during business hours, and those interested in volunteering can enquire in-store or visit the Willow website.

Since 1999, Willow, founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his wife Megs, has provided over 22,000 special experiences for seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40. This new Hitchin store is the eighth in Willow’s growing network of charity shops, located across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
