Charity shops in the community: The story of the Big C crochet tree

It all started at the beginning of 2023 after the team at Big C were inspired by a Finnish granny square tree.

The Big C team asked customers and volunteers to crochet 500 squares. And they did the team proud by producing over 1400!

So they made, not one, but two trees. One is on display in Big C’s Wymondham furniture and craft emporium. The other will be at Wymondham Abbey during December.

As there were so many squares, not all could be used on the trees. But ALL the squares will be made into blankets, including those used in the trees. The blankets will be given to the Big C local food bank and local care homes.

“We are deeply humbled by the generosity of our talented customers and volunteers. We’d also like to thank our Christmas tree elves Jo, Edna and David, without whom this amazing project would not have happened.”
